Dr. Beebe’s main research is solar physics. In particular, has made many contributions to our understanding of the structure of the solar chromosphere. For this research, he often used the Sac Peak Observatory. Though Dr. Beebe is “retired”, he remains very active in the department. He just completed the Clyde Tombaugh Project, in which he conducted interviews with many of Dr. Tombaugh colleagues. This project was completed in close collaboration with the University Library, where an impressive display of many of Dr. Tombaugh’s personal research materials is housed. Dr. Beebe is currently working to document the history of astronomy in New Mexico.
